Fibreglass Roofs

Joint-Free Fibreglass (GRP) Roofing

Fibreglass, also called GRP, turns a flat roof into a single, continuous surface. Resin and glass matting are laid over a sound deck and set hard as one sheet, so there are no laps or seams for water to find. It is one of the neatest ways to cover an extension, garage or dormer.

Pre-formed trims around the edges give clean lines and a proper drip, and upstands are formed in the same material as the roof so the corners are as watertight as the middle. The cured surface is tough, takes light foot traffic and is finished with a coloured topcoat.

Fibreglass needs a dry day and a sound deck to lay well, so the old covering comes off and the boards are checked or replaced first. You get a FREE, no-obligation quotation and an honest view on whether fibreglass or felt suits your roof better.

When to Call

When a Fibreglass Roof Makes Sense

  • Old Felt Keeps Leaking

A felt roof that has been patched again and again is often worth replacing with a single fibreglass covering.

  • New Extension Roof

A new or rebuilt extension, dormer or garage needs a flat roof that looks neat and keeps the weather out well.

  • Water Sitting on Top

Pooling water on a tired flat roof wears it out quickly, and a new deck laid to a better fall lets it drain.

  • Cracked GRP Surface

Fine cracks or a crazed topcoat on an older fibreglass roof can let moisture into the layers beneath it.

Pricing

What Affects the Cost of Fibreglass

Every roof is different, so the price is worked out once the roof has been looked at rather than guessed over the phone. These are the things that move it.

Fibreglass Roofs work on a roof

FREE, No-Obligation Quotations

Every roof is looked at before it is priced, so the figure you get is the figure for your job. Your quotation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

  • Size of the Roof

The roof area sets how much resin, matting and topcoat is needed, and how long the roof takes to lay.

  • Deck Replacement

Fibreglass needs a firm, dry deck, so damp or soft boards have to be replaced before the roof is laid.

  • Trims & Detailing

Roof lights, corners, upstands and long edges all add trims and detailed work to finish them properly.

  • Access & Height

A single-storey roof is simple to reach, while a dormer or upper roof may need a tower or scaffold.

FAQs

Fibreglass Roof Questions Answered

What Does GRP Stand for on a Flat Roof?

GRP means glass reinforced plastic, which is the proper name for a fibreglass roof. Resin and glass matting are laid together and cure into a hard, continuous sheet that covers the whole roof without joints.

Can Fibreglass Be Laid in Wet or Cold Weather?

Not well. The resin needs dry conditions and a dry deck to cure properly, so fibreglass is laid on a suitable day. If the forecast turns, the roof is protected and the work carries on when it is dry again.

Will a Fibreglass Roof Take Foot Traffic for Maintenance?

A fibreglass roof will take occasional, careful foot traffic for maintenance, such as servicing a roof light. If the roof will be used more often, mention it before the quotation so it can be built up for that use, with safe access arranged.

Is Fibreglass Worth It Over Felt for an Extension?

For many extensions, yes. Fibreglass gives a smooth, joint-free finish with neat trims that looks clean from upstairs windows. Felt costs less and is quicker to lay. We will explain both for your roof and price either one.

Can a Cracked Fibreglass Roof Be Repaired?

Small cracks and damaged areas can usually be ground back and repaired with fresh resin and matting, then topcoated. Widespread cracking often points to a deck that moves, and in that case we will explain why the deck needs attention first.
